Doug
and Mike Barberry formed Barr-Net,
Inc. in January of 1997. The Barberry family
has been growing quality turfgrass sod since 1950, currently
operating Aldino Sod Farms, Inc. in Churchville, Maryland.
Recently, Doug Barberry has become the sole owner and
operator of the Barr-Net, Inc. production company. The
development of the Barrnetter has grown from the need
to reduce labor, increase efficiency, and increase profitability.
In
the past, fieldnetting was installed with a large labor
force pinning the edges of the net by hand. It was a very
tedious, labor intensive, and expensive process. The field
netting process began about 1970 and up to about 1992
the process was installed by hand until four turf growers
from Maryland and Kentucky got together and built the
forerunner of the Barr-Net C-175/20 XL. After two years
of
R & D the generation one machine was built and marketed
to the industry on January 06, 1997.
Today’s
third generation production model is a major improvement
over the first and second-generation models. Barr-Net,
Inc. has set the standard for fieldnet installation, selling
over 200 units in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom,
Australia, and Russia. We are continuing to search for
better methods of fieldnet installation; our intention
is to stay ahead of industry needs.
